Underfloor Heating Designed by Heating Engineers

We install underfloor heating for homes, extensions and conversions across North Yorkshire. From a single bathroom to a whole ground floor, we handle everything from the survey and heat loss calculations to installation, commissioning and aftercare.

How it works

What Is Underfloor Heating?

Wet underfloor heating uses a network of pipes laid beneath your floor. Warm water from your boiler or heat pump flows through the pipes and gently heats the floor, which warms the room evenly from the ground up.

A central manifold controls the flow to each room, and each zone has its own thermostat, so you only heat the rooms you are using.

  • Even, comfortable warmth with no cold spots
  • Frees up wall space with no radiators
  • Lower running costs than radiators, especially with a heat pump
  • Room by room control with smart thermostats
  • Very low maintenance, with pipework designed to last decades
Choosing a system

Wet or Electric Underfloor Heating?

Both have their place. We will recommend the right system for each room during your free survey.

Wet Underfloor Heating

Connects to your boiler or heat pump and circulates warm water under the floor. The most efficient choice for whole floors, extensions and open-plan spaces.

  • Lowest running costs for larger areas
  • Works with boilers and heat pumps
  • Suits new builds, extensions and retrofits

Electric Underfloor Heating

Thin heating mats or cables laid under tiles and powered from the mains. Quick to install with a low build-up height, but more expensive to run.

  • Ideal for bathrooms, en-suites and small kitchens
  • Low build-up height
  • Quick to install
Worth knowing

Air Source Heat Pumps and Underfloor Heating

Heat pumps work most efficiently at lower water temperatures, typically 35 to 45°C. Radiators usually need hotter water, which makes the heat pump work harder. Underfloor heating is designed to run at exactly those lower temperatures, so the heat pump runs more efficiently and your running costs come down.

As MCS certified installers, we design the heat pump and the underfloor heating as one system. Underfloor heating on its own is not covered by the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, but the heat pump may qualify, and we handle that paperwork as part of the project. Suitability

Is Underfloor Heating Right for Your Home?

Underfloor heating suits more homes than most people expect. Performance depends on your floor construction, insulation and heat source, so every system we install is designed for the property.

Underfloor Heating for New Builds and Extensions

If you are building an extension or a new home, this is the best time to install underfloor heating. The pipes go in before the screed, so there is no disruption to finished floors and the installation cost per square metre is at its lowest.

We work directly with homeowners, builders and small developers across North Yorkshire, and coordinate with your project timeline so the underfloor heating is ready when the screed is poured.

  • Single and double storey extensions
  • Barn and outbuilding conversions
  • Self-build homes and small developments

FAQs

Underfloor Heating FAQs

The cost depends on the size of the area, the type of floor and whether it is a new build or an existing home. Wet underfloor heating in a new build or extension is usually cheaper per square metre than retrofitting into an existing floor. We give you a fixed, itemised quote after a free survey.
Yes. On solid concrete floors, low-profile overlay boards can be laid over the existing floor with only a small increase in height. On suspended timber floors, the pipes can be fitted between the joists. We will tell you at survey stage which approach suits your home.
Wet underfloor heating is usually cheaper to run than radiators, because it heats a room using lower temperature water spread across the whole floor. The savings are greatest with a heat pump. Electric underfloor heating costs more to run, so we recommend it for smaller rooms.
For most rooms, underfloor heating gives more even warmth, frees up wall space and runs at lower temperatures. Radiators heat up faster and are cheaper to fit in existing rooms. Many homes use both, with underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs.
Yes. Wet underfloor heating works with gas, oil and LPG boilers, including combi boilers. A mixing valve brings the water temperature down to the right level for the floor. It also works with heat pumps, where it delivers the biggest efficiency gains.
Yes. Tiles and stone are the best conductors of heat, but engineered wood, laminate, vinyl and carpet can all work. With carpet, the combined tog rating of the carpet and underlay should usually be no more than 2.5 tog.
